IHG to Bring New York the Largest LEED Certified Hotel

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (IHG) will welcome a property in Times Square this year. Slated to open in July, the InterContinental New York Times Square will join the historic InterContinental New York Barclay as IHG's newest InterContinental Hotel in New York.

Upon completion, the InterContinental New York Times Square will be one of the most environmentally responsible hotels in New York City and the largest new-build hotel to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Counsel (USGBC).

Situated on 44th Street just west of Times Square, the new-build hotel is a short stroll to the Broadway Theatre district and Fifth Avenue shopping and features uninterrupted and expansive views of Manhattan from virtually every guestroom. Wrapped with floor-to-ceiling windows, the 36-story building will include 29 corner suites amidst a total of 607 guestrooms— each averaging 350 square feet and including an oversized bathroom complete with walk-in rain showers. Additionally, the hotel's 2,700-square-foot duplex Presidential Suite will showcase panoramic views of Times Square, Broadway, the New York City skyline and the Hudson River.

As one of the closest hotels to Javits Convention Center, the property features 10 meeting rooms totaling 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, inclusive of a 4,000-square-foot ballroom. Additionally, there are 25 flexible suites that can be utilized as event space.

Designed by the global architecture firm Gensler, LEED certification was based on a number of green design and construction features, including the use of sustainable materials such as roofing with low solar heat gain; green roofs with drought-tolerant, low maintenance plants (such as moss and sedum plantings); large windows to maximize natural day lighting; and an energy-generating elevator system.

The hotel will showcase a new French bistro-inspired restaurant from Celebrity Chef Todd English who was recently named to James Beard Foundation's "Who's Who in Food and Beverage in America." The restaurant includes an intimate dining space available for private events and a dynamic bar area overlooking Broadway that captures the energy of the Theatre District and the urban appeal of historic Hell's Kitchen.

Additional amenities include a Concierge Lounge; 24-hour business and fitness centers; wired and wireless Internet in guestrooms and public areas; 42-inch HD flat-panel TVs and touch-screen computers in all guestrooms; and a courtyard viewing garden in the lobby complete with reflecting pool and sculptures.
