InterContinental Enlists Stockholm's Grand Hotel

Grand Hotel Stockholm, the landmark hotel that has hosted Nobel Prize laureates since 1901, is joining InterContinental Hotels Group as a franchisee, effective in January. The hotel, which will maintain its name, becomes InterContinental's only property in Scandinavia. A statement from the hotel calls the new alliance "a strategic move to position itself globally by sharing the InterContinental's international sales and reservation system."

The 132-year-old Grand Hotel Stockholm, located next to the National Museum and across from the Royal Palace, belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World. In the last couple of years, it has added meeting rooms and a restaurant and renovated its bar; in 2008, it plans to upgrade its spa. Go to www.grandhotel.se. (AO)
