Massanutten Resort, located in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, has opened its slopes to skiers and snowboarders for winter 2022-23. With this year marking 50 years on the mountain, the resort is celebrating with the introduction of three new ski runs, upgrades to its snowmaking system, expanded equipment rentals, improvements to its ticketing system, and increased entertainment options.
At 2,922 feet of elevation, Massanutten Resort offers 80 skiable acres of terrain suitable for all levels, from the beginner to the advanced skier or snowboarder. This season, Massanutten has introduced almost 7,000 feet of new trails with three additional slopes. Skiers and snowboarders can check out the terrain on two new blue trails, Mueller’s Mile and Ridgecrest and a black trail, Slot. Lesson options this winter will include private lessons for all ages, adult group lessons for ages 13 and above, and new for this year, Theo’s Cub Club for ages seven through 12 geared towards beginners who will progress through a two-hour group lesson on the resort’s easiest terrain.
Massanutten Resort has also increased its recreational activity offerings this winter with a new mountain experience, Perfect Break, offering e-sports gaming and tournaments for guests. Perfect Break comprises new Topgolf Swing Suites which offer the opportunity to golf year-round on a range of PGA Tour Courses and Topgolf Signature Games while also providing other simulated classics such as baseball, hockey, soccer and zombie dodgeball.
The spa at Massanutten invites guests to try out new services, including hydrafacials, nail polish options that promote nail health, and a sleep therapy massage. Addutionally, later this winter, Massanutten will open a new restaurant, Splash’s Bar and Grill, in the Indoor WaterPark.
Massanutten’s sustainability and solar initiatives are well underway with the construction of solar arrays at its Woodstone check-in facility as well as its laundry facility. On the mountain, the resort has added over 80 new, low energy snowmaking machines that will allow the resort to make more snow while using less energy. Additionally, the new trails, along with select existing ones will be equipped with LED lighting. To further reduce its carbon footprint, the resort shuttle will return this winter.
Massanutten will continue to offer snow tubing throughout the day, besides Northern Lights tubing on select night sessions, which includes neon lights and pumping music as guests fly down the slopes. The resort also offers ice-skating sessions at the outdoor rink outside of Massanutten’s Fitness & Rec Club.
As well, the resort will resume après-ski entertainment on the weekends beginning December 16. Guests can use their slope ticket for free entry to Elevations Lounge every Friday and Saturday night this winter to enjoy a live band.
The mountain is closed from November 28-December 2 and reopens December 3-4, weather permitting. Individual lift tickets will be available for general purchase on December 1. Season passes for 2022-23 are on sale. Pass holders will have reservation-free access to the ski slopes this year.
