As it prepares for a winter opening, The Solis, The Palmyra Resort & Spa in Rose Hall, Jamaica is solidifying it management team, most notably with the appointment of its general manager and director of sales and marketing.
In his role as general manager, Lester Scott will have direct oversight and management of all aspects of Jamaica’s newest luxury resort. Scott, who was appointed in late July, joined The West Paces Hotel Group, one of the industry’s leading hotel management companies, in 2006 as director of operations for Hotel 71 in Chicago. He also held the position of hotel manager for the Royal Palm Resort located in Miami, and most recently he was in charge of managing day-to-day operations for The Daufuskie Island Resort and Breathe Spa in Daufuskie Island, South Carolina.
Scott’s appointment came about a week after the resort named Juan P. Ortega its new director of sales and marketing. A 17-year hotel industry veteran, Ortega comes to Solís, The Palmyra Resort & Spa following a five-year career with Starwood Hotels & Resorts. He most recently held the position of task force director of sales and marketing for Starwood, working on special projects throughout North America. Before that, he served as director of sales and marketing and was closely involved in the pre-launch and re-positioning of the 483-room Westin Aruba Resort Spa & Casino, formerly a Wyndham property.
