The Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo Panama, located on a waterfront enclave overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the Casco Viejo district in Panama City, is slated to open on January 19, 2023.
The lobby celebrates the country’s architectural wonder, the Panama Canal, with nautical design elements including custom-made sculptures, artwork, historic photographs and maritime navigational instruments. Beyond the lobby, the French heritage of the building is woven throughout a variety of design details, including the ballroom’s marble checkerboard floors, wrought iron balcony and brass touches, and contrasted by contemporary Panamanian design elements, such as local artwork, handmade encaustic tiles and colorful furnishings.
Surrounding a central terrace and oceanfront pool, Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo offers 159 guestrooms, including 35 suites. Many of the rooms offer balconies with seascapes where morning coffees and sunset cocktails can be enjoyed as daily rituals.
The property houses five F&B outlets: Caleta is a Mediterranean brasserie helmed by Executive Chef Lorenzo Di Gravio; MAYDA Lobby Bar & Plaza offers light bites and classic cocktails, besides afternoon tea and sweet confections; the Pool Bar located below The Plaza offers fresh juices and smoothies, along with healthy snacks and bowls; Vera Café serves specialty coffee from the Panamanian highlands, croissants, chocolate confections, sandwiches and other grab-and-go treats; and the soon-to-open Ammi rooftop bar with views of the ocean and city skyline will offer a setting for Latin music, bespoke cocktails and more.
A full-service Sofitel Spa with KOS Paris offers treatments and therapies inspired by ancestral healing rituals. The spa is home to an expansive relaxation area, tearoom and plunge pool. The 24-hour oceanfront gym offers private one-on-one training options and group classes led by certified trainers.
