Mark Theis was named Director of Group Sales – North America by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. In his new role Theis will execute Starwood’s group segment sales strategy for North America and will lead a team of more than 40 sellers responsible for group accounts including association, corporate, third party, government and other segments.
Theis brings more than two decades of sales experience to his role at Starwood. Most recently he served as executive vice president of the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau where he led the sales, client services, membership, special events and research teams. His strategic sales and client service efforts were instrumental in establishing Chicago as a leading meetings and convention destination, Starwood said.
Prior to his role at the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau, Theis held increasingly senior sales leadership roles with the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, Marriott Hotels & Resorts and LA Inc. (Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau).
“Mark’s sales experience and the passion that he has for customers and the hotel business is a tremendous asset to Starwood,” said Betty Wilson, Vice President, North America Divisional Sales. “Mark has a proven track record of successfully cultivating meetings and group business to some of the largest cities in the country.”
Theis is based in Starwood’s Chicago sales office.
