Tabacón Resort Partners With Psychologist For Wellbeing Program

Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa has partnered with Dr. Natalie Christine Dattilo to create a psychologist-approved sustainable wellness program for guests and staff. Dattilo is an instructor at Harvard Medical School and the founder of Priority Wellness Group. The program, “ESCAPE to Tabacón,” offers a blend of organizational self-care with traditional wellness techniques and evidence-based therapies.

The wellness package includes sensory, emotional, and physical experiences. The package has been created for guests and staff alike. Guests who book the “ESCAPE to Tabacón” package will have access to Dr. Dattilo’s guidebook that includes techniques that can be incorporated into daily life beyond their stay at the resort. The staff enrichment plan is available to every Tabacón employee and includes evidence-based mental health support, along with their policies for maternity and paternity leave, financial loan opportunities and preventative health care. It also includes a guidebook that incorporates feedback from annual staff reviews to boost staff morale and wellbeing.

The “ESCAPE to Tabacón” package includes a five-night stay. Rates are based on double occupancy. Dr. Dattilo created the package with six mind-body strategies from her trademarked, science-backed “ESCAPE” approach: Exercise, Sleep, Connect, Appreciate, Play and Exhale.

  • Exercise: Guests can experience the benefits of exercise by choosing an adventure: horseback riding, waterfall hike, zip-lining adventure or whitewater rafting.
  • Sleep: Tabacón has collaborated with local, female-owned skincare company Biosfera to develop the “ESCAPE” turndown service which includes a pillow spray infusion of jasmine, musk, citrus and a “Healthy Mind” essential oil blend for use in meditation or in a hot shower that calms the senses in preparation for sleep.
  • Connect: Guests can avail of a private outdoor yoga experience to reconnect with their thoughts and nature to boost emotional health. Tabacón has also developed a downloadable binaural beats track for guests.
  • Appreciate: Dr. Dattilo recommends starting by identifying three things to be thankful for in the present moment. At Tabacón, guests can practice gratitude for nature’s abundance. This includes a private tree planting ceremony.
  • Play: Dr. Dattilo recommends splashing around in Tabacón’s natural thermal pools and taking a Pura Vida cooking class for two. The chefs will impart new skills while they dance to the music and enjoy a lunch of local delicacies.
  • Exhale: Guests can enjoy clean air at Tabacón’s open-air rainforest spa and the signature Emotional Massage that uses aromatherapy, deep breathing techniques and pressure points to re-establish equilibrium. The massage is followed by 25 minutes of balneotherapy.
