Haiti’s newest homegrown airline, Sunrise Airways inaugurated scheduled passenger service on December 20, 2012. The carrier enjoyed a strong first year in operation, launching both domestic and international routes from Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien as part of a comprehensive strategy to better connect the Western Caribbean.

“We’ve had our eyes on Kingston for quite some time now, but our expansion plans for 2014 don’t stop there,” said Bayard, who expressed confidence that Sunrise would be spreading its wings to several other parts of the Caribbean throughout the balance of 2014.
