HONOLULU (AP) — The number of travelers to Hawaii climbed 4.8 percent last month compared to the same month last year.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority said Monday more than 690,000 visitors came to the islands in October.
But the state agency says each visitor spent less per day on average. That led to a 2.2 percent decline in spending during the month.
Hawaii Tourism Authority CEO George Szigeti says the agency is monitoring issues that could affect tourism. These include the U.S. State Department's worldwide travel alert and global economic conditions.
For the first 10 months of the year, visitor arrivals are 4.2 percent higher and spending is up 2.2 percent from 2014.
