ASTA Warns on Florida Travel Sellers

ASTA is advising members that the state of Florida has issued a travel insurance warning to  travel sellers.  ASTA reports that the State of Florida recently issued a warning to all travel sellers that they must be properly licensed and appointed by the State of Florida in order to sell or solicit travel insurance in Florida.

In addition, Florida reminds travel sellers that sale of insurance from companies not authorized by the State of Florida is a third-degree felony which is punishable by up to five years in prison and a potential fine of $5,000. Such sales may also result in the travel agent being responsible for unpaid insurance claims.

ASTA urged  that agents with travel insurance licensing questions, should contact the Florida Division of Agent and Agency Services' Web site at www.MyFloridaCFO.com/Agents or call the Florida Bureau of Licensing at 850.413.3137. ASTA member can also obtain more information at www.ASTA.org about what actions agents you should take and what ASTA is doing to help.
