Carlson Wagonlit Passes Along Opt-In Program Costs to Clients

Travel behemoth Carlson Wagonlit Travel is planning to charge customers a $2 per ticket surcharge to offset the cost of enrolling in GDS programs like the Sabre Efficient Access Solution or Worldspan's Super Access programs, a travel news site is reporting. A Carlson Wagonlit executive told Business Travel News that the travel company began informing clients of the $2 fee on July 21. Enrolling in such "preferred distribution channels" will cost agencies about $.80 per segment in booking incentives, agencies have informed Travel Agent. Carlson Wagonlit told Business Travel News it arrived at the $2 figure because it represents the midpoint "between the cost of two segments at $1.60 and three segments at $2.40." Repeated attempts to reach Carlson Wagonlit's corporate headquarters on Monday proved fruitless.
