Evans Named ASTA VP of Government Affairs

David J. Evans is ASTA's new vice president of Government Affairs for the Society, according to a Wednesday release from the group. Evans will be responsible for the society's state and federal lobbying efforts, as well as its political action committee, ASTAPAC.

“I look forward to working with ASTA and its members to further their  legislative agenda," Evans said. "As more states are looking to boost their coffers through travel and tourism-related taxes, it becomes even more important that ASTA have a strong voice at the local and federal level."

Evans most recently spent six years as the group vice president of Government Relations at Wyndham Worldwide Group. Before that, Evans was for seven years the senior legislative and corporate counsel for the American Resort Development Association, and worked for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the Florida House of Representatives. He currently works as an assistant professor at the University of Maryland and has served on the USTA board.

“David brings more than 15 years of experience in state and federal government relations and international public policy to the table," said Chris Russo, ASTA president and chair. "His understanding of both the business and government arenas will be a great asset to ASTA’s efforts on the Hill and in state legislatures. His experience and commitment will benefit ASTA as we move forward to better serve the needs of our members and the industry."
