Liberty Travel Casual Friday Policy Pays Off

Liberty Travel reports that employees have donated over $5,000 to various charities in 2009 in a series of "Donate for Denim" Fridays at Liberty's corporate headquarters, located in the New Jersey towns of Ramsey and Mahwah. On "Donate for Denim" Fridays, employees are invited to contribute a donation of $5 in exchange for wearing jeans and casual clothing.

These charity events are also open to employees of GOGO Worldwide Vacations, Liberty Travel's sister company, a travel wholesaler, with whom Liberty Travel shares its corporate offices. Both are part of Flight Centre USA.

Charities that have benefited from these events include the Special Olympics, Ramapo Bergen Animal Shelter, Gay Men's Health Crisis (an HIV/AIDS charity), Sandals Foundation and Adopt a Platoon.

In addition to over $5,000, employees also donated over 1,400 pounds of food to the Community Food Bank of NJ, as well as roughly $600 worth of food and supplies to the Ramapo Bergen Animal Shelter.

"The donations are of course a huge benefit to the charities, but they also give the employees a sense of accomplishment," said a representative from Healthwise, the department that coordinates "Donate for Denim" Fridays. "We work to help employees be healthier and happier, through activities that let them bond while helping out great causes."

"Donate for Denim" Fridays are only one of many events coordinated by Healthwise. Other efforts include a recent Pedometer Challenge, onsite fitness classes and the addition of a 5k walk/run to an upcoming corporate gathering.
