DOMINICAN REPUBLIC-Travel Agent recently got back from its two-day coverage of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange held at the Barceló Bavaro Convention Center in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. An estimated 100 suppliers and wholesalers (exact numbers were not available by press time) attended the event in which we discovered a growing trend in non all-inclusive properties aimed at the luxury client. Press conferences were held all morning on both Friday and Saturday with suppliers and buyers meetings held throughout both days. Here is some news from the event that most attendees called successful. Amhsa Marina Hotels & Resorts announced the extension of its supply in Bavaro, with 150 new rooms, in both Las Galeres and Samana. There also will be a project of real estate tourism that will include 48 apartments. For the existing hotel in Samana, 230 rooms will be added. Meanwhile, the hotel Casa Marina Bay of Las Galeras will be taken from 334 to 564 rooms and the Club at Gran Paradise Bavaro will go from 228 to 378 rooms. Visit [www.amhsamarina.com].
