As of September 11, Allianz Global Assistance USA has received more than 3,200 claims, and their customer service center has fielded more than 1,200 calls, from customers seeking support following Hurricane Irma.
Also, Allianz has also received more than 2,400 claims related to Hurricane Harvey and a handful of claims for Hurricane Jose.
Allianz Travel Insurance has set up a hurricane alert page on its website to provide customers with important information about their travel insurance coverage, instructions on how to file a claim, information about emergency travel assistance and access to its TravelSmart mobile app.
“Hurricane Irma has caused thousands of our customers to cancel their trips to Florida,” said Daniel Durazo, director of communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA, in a written release. “To assist them, we’ve set up a page on our website with important information on how travel insurance can help.”
Many customers who don’t need assistance are opting to file their travel insurance claim directly from the company's website, which can be accessed from any device, including from smartphones using Allianz’s TravelSmart mobile app, according to the statement.
Many travel suppliers, including airlines and hotels, are waiving change fees to allow rescheduling without penalty. If Allianz's customers are able to change the dates of their trip, they just need to visit the company's website and Allianz will change the dates of the clients travel insurance policy to correspond to the new dates of travel.
“We want to remind travelers to read their travel insurance policy so they understand all of services and benefits that are available to them and to take their travel insurance card with them when they travel so they have quick access to their policy number and our toll-free assistance line,” said Durazo. “It’s also a good idea to download our TravelSmart mobile app which includes one touch dialing to reach our travel assistance department, which can help with finding new flights, accommodations and solutions to other travel related problems.”
