On Site: Bermuda to Open New Park Hyatt Hotel

BRIDGETOWN, Bermuda – As part of Travel Agent’s ongoing coverage of the CTO Leadership Strategy Conference, we learned of Bermuda’s plans to build a Park Hyatt Hotel in place of the destination’s old Club Med property.

No other details were provided since an official annoucnmeent by the developer is not expected until October 21, says William "Billy" Griffith, tourism director.

Other major hotel news reported at a press conference hosted by Bermuda Saturday morning include the re-opening of the 9 Beaches Bermuda Resort, which was closed earlier this year. The property will re-open in December of 2011.

Arrivals in Bermuda for the summer peak season are up 2-3 percent from the same time last year, Griffith says, and overall numbers on the year are on pace to being flat compared to the same period last year. The best news from Bermuda, however, is a 30 percent increase to date on cruise arrivals.
