Veteran public relations consultant Tim Thompson has joined Alaska Airlines as manager of public affairs for the state of Alaska.

Thompson will manage the airline’s public affairs and community relations programs in the state, including charitable giving, sponsorships and the airline’s Community Advisory Boards. He will be stepping in for Susan Bramstedt, Alaska Airlines’ third most-senior employee, who will retire Oct. 10 after 45 years with the carrier.

"Tim has a vast knowledge of the state and more than 20 years of communications experience in a variety of disciplines," said Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines regional vice president, Alaska. "Regional Sales and Community Marketing Manager Scott Habberstad and I welcome him onboard as part of our community outreach team in Alaska."

Formerly, Thompson was a partner in Anchorage-based Thompson & Co. Public Relations, where he worked in public relations, media relations, event planning, social media and crisis management for a number of Alaska businesses and nonprofits. He also served as director of external affairs for the Alaska Railroad Corp., overseeing charitable giving and community relations, and as an assignment manager at KTUU Channel 2 in Anchorage.

A lifelong resident of Alaska, Thomson has an MBA from Alaska Pacific University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is a current board member and past chair of Anchorage School Business Partnerships.
