Bonaire Names New Dive Site in Honor of Prince Willem Alexander of the Netherlands

BonaireIn conjunction with STINAPA, the government of Bonaire will name a dive site in honor of Prince Willem Alexander, who will ascend to the throne in The Netherlands on April 30th as His Royal Majesty King Willem Alexander. The Prince, along with his wife, Princess Maxima, is planning to visit Bonaire in November. At that time, the “Rei Willem Alexander” dive site will be unveiled for their visit and for the world to dive.  Prince Willem Alexander is being given this honor because he “has always been a strong supporter of our marine initiatives and adheres to our commitment to preserving our intricate reef system,” says Ethsel Pieternella, Director of Tourism Corporation Bonaire.

Located eighty-six miles east of Aruba, the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire is renowned for scuba diving and snorkeling. Already, Bonaire has received 17 awards this year. Additionally, for 20 consecutive years, Bonaire has been selected as the number one Shore Diving destination in the Caribbean/Atlantic in Scuba Diving magazine’s annual Readers’ Choice Awards. This year, the Readers Choice Awards also voted it as the number one location for Beginner Diving, Advanced Diving, Macro Diving and Underwater Photography.
