The carrier on Wednesday announced it would offer customers the option of participating in an itinerary-based carbon offset program in conjunction with Sustainable Travel International, becoming the first airline to partner with the environmental organization. Beginning later this summer, travelers can visit Continental's web site and calculate the carbon footprint of their booked itinerary and purchase carbon offsets from the nonprofit Sustainable Travel International. These proceeds are then invested into high-impact sustainable development projects all over the world that includes reforestation, renewable energy and energy conservation.
