For American Heart Month, EF Adventures has launched two new hiking and multi-adventure experiences in Southern Patagonia and New Zealand. The “Challenging” tour series now includes five guided trips across Europe, Latin America and the Asia Pacific region. EF Adventures already offers two dozen “Moderate” and “Intermediate” levels of hiking, biking and multi-adventure tours across the globe.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. and studies show that Americans are in the midst of a serious wellness epidemic. NIH guidelines advise that people can gain health benefits from as little as 60 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. For major health benefits, at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity each week is recommended.
Details for the new tours include:
- “Southern Patagonia Hiking: Chile & Argentina” (14 days; 16 days with Buenos Aires extension) – The journey begins in Chile’s largest city and capital, Santiago, before heading south to the Patagonian region, where glaciers, lakes and mountains await in Torres del Paine National Park. Travelers will cross into Argentine Patagonia and, from their base in El Calafate, the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park, they’ll hike across the Perito Moreno Glacier. The adventure continues in El Chaltén, Argentina’s trekking capital, where they will embark on laguna hikes with views of Mount Fitz Roy, a symbol of Patagonia. Along the way, they will join traditional asados, meet local artisans and sip local wine. The journey concludes in Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital Buenos Aires.
- “New Zealand Multi-Adventure: North & South Islands” (15 days; 18 days with Bay of Islands extension) – In New Zealand’s North Island, travelers will experience roaring waterfalls and geothermal playgrounds. They will enjoy blackwater rafting in Waitomo through twinkling glowworm grottos, cycling through redwood forests in Rotorua and trekking in Tongariro National Park, home to three active volcanic mountains. Mountains, glacial valleys and wineries await as travelers enter the South Island, where they’ll brave swing bridges in Te Anau, kayak through Milford Sound past fur seal colonies and waterfalls, and raft whitewater rapids on Shotover River. They will discover Māori culture and their sacred principle of manaakitanga, the art of hospitality and respect.
Other tours in the “Challenging” portfolio include “Spain Biking: The Island of Mallorca” (eight days; 10 days with Palma de Mallorca extension); “Peru Hiking: Sacred Valley & Machu Picchu” (10 days; 13 days with the Amazon extension); and “Tour de France Biking: Iconic Routes” (10 days, 12 days with Paris extension).
Inclusive pricing for tours covers lodging, equipment maintenance and usage (including bikes, helmets, etc.), luggage transfers to lodging, several healthy-inspired and fuel-powered meals, and knowledgeable Tour Directors and local guides who will teach travelers about the communities they will visit during their journey. EF Adventures can also book flights from any U.S. airport, with the price of airline fares being included in interest-free monthly payment plans.
