Maupin Travel, a top 40 nationally recognized corporate travel management company, announced its sale to Trevor and Jordan Smith.
“It has been a pleasure serving our clients’ travel needs over the past 35 years and I’m confident that Trevor and Jordan will continue to build upon our commitment to customer service," said Tony Maupin, president, Maupin Travel (www.maupintravel.com). He founded the firm in 1979.
One of the largest privately owned travel management organizations in the Southeast, Maupin Travel posts gross annual sales of more than $38 million. It specializes in corporate, university and leisure travel throughout the United States, as well as in handling group air for pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Maupin Travel employs more than 40 employees in four branches located in Raleigh, Cary and Chapel Hill, NC. As of Feb. 27, 2014, Trevor and Jordan Smith assumed control of all branches and services.
Trevor Smith is the company’s new president and will continue to work closely with Maupin, who has assumed the role of director of strategic development. The press release about the recent sale stated that the existing travel management team will remain in place and continue to operate Maupin Travel alongside its new owners.
“We are thrilled to join Maupin Travel,” said Trevor Smith, “and we look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality, personalized service to our customers. Maupin Travel has built wonderful client relationships with some of the most established businesses and universities in the Southeast. Our primary focus is to continue to serve our customers in a dependable, professional manner.”
Trevor Smith has extensive business management experience. He graduated from Harvard Business School in 2008 and has since worked closely with Travel Leaders Group. He most recently served as vice president for One Equity Partners (OEP), where he was responsible for raising capital for Travel Leaders Group.
Prior to holding these positions, he and Jordan Smith worked with nonprofit organizations in Kenya and South Africa. The Smiths grew up in Hilton Head Island, SC and recently moved to Durham, NC, to be closer to family and raise their three children in the Triangle.
In a press release, the Smiths said they're eager to invest themselves in Maupin Travel and the business community in North Carolina and beyond.
