Riviera River Cruises Introduces New Walking Excursions

Riviera River Cruises has announced its new Cruise, Walk & Discover excursions that can be added on to select river cruise departures starting in fall 2019. The new excursions can be added on to three river cruise departures in fall 2019: Medieval Germany, The Blue Danube, and Cruise the Heart of Europe.

Medieval Germany

On this excursion, guests can experience three active walks through Wertheim, Würzburg and Bamberg. For example, guests can leave the river behind and climb to Wertheim Castle, known for its distinctive tower. Once home to the counts of Wertheim, the ruins of the castle are a reminder of the Thirty Years’ War. From the castle, guests can view the Main River and the Tauber River. Guests will then climb through the forest on a panoramic trail along the Taubertal before descending to the Tauber River and following it back to Wertheim. Fares begin at $39 per person.

The Blue Danube

Guests can experience three active walks through the cities of in Esztergom, Dürnstein and Mondsee during this excursion. For instance, guests can experience a walk up and through the forests of Esztergom, with viewpoints over the Danube. While heading back to the river, guests will pass the Csurgó well and the chapel of Saint Orbán. Fares begin at $39 per person.

Cruise the Heart of Europe

During this journey, guests can experience up to five active walks through Hainburg an der Donau, Passau, Bamberg, Würzburg and Rüdesheim. For example, guests will visit Hainburg an der Donau on day four of departure, a town on the banks of the River Danube. From there, guests will follow a wooded trail along the banks of the Danube to the ruined castle of Röthelstein before climbing up Braunsberg, a limestone massif overlooking the Danube. Fares begin at $59 per person.

All walks will be approximately two to 2 1/2 hours in duration and range from three to five miles in distance.
