Uzbekistan in particular has boomed post-COVID and has become one of the operator’s top selling destinations in 2023. With bookings stronger than ever before, Wild Frontiers is adding a new tour to its growing Uzbekistan portfolio, "Uzbekistan & Tajikistan: Samarkand & The Fan Mountains."
This overland tour provides a way to see the highlights of the two neighboring countries, of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, showcasing the best of Islamic architecture, Silk Road history and the region's mountain lakes. Starting in Tashkent, travelers will cross the border to begin exploring the historic cities and accessible mountains of northwest Tajikistan. Entering and exiting via the ancient cities of Khodjent and Penjikent, guests will begin with an introduction to the shared histories of the two countries, before spending time in the Fan Mountains for some hiking during homestay and the waters of the Margazor Lakes.
Next, the journey takes the group to Uzbekistan and the UNESCO-protected architecture of Samarkand and Bukhara, including the Registan Square. After four days strolling through the legendary streets and buildings of Uzbekistan’s great Silk Road, guests will come full circle, taking Central Asia’s first high-speed train back to Tashkent.
