American Airlines to Boost U.S.-Brazil Service

The Department of Transportation has awarded American Airlines the rights to fly 11 new flights per week between the United States and Brazil beginning November 18. Seven of the flights will be a daily nonstop route between New York and Rio de Janeiro. Service between Miami and Brasilia will be four times a week. Flights are available for sale beginning Sunday, June 27.

Daily flights from New York's JFK depart at 9:25 p.m. and arrive in Rio de Janeiro at 10:40 a.m. the next day. Return service leaves Brazil at 11:05 p.m. and lands in New York at 6:15 a.m. the next day. The New York-Rio de Janeiro route will use a 225-seat Boeing 767-300 aircraft, which accommodates 30 Business Class and 195 Economy Class passengers.

The Miami-Brasilia flight takes off every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The route departs from Florida at 11:10 p.m. and arrives in Brazil at 9:35 a.m. the next day. Return service leaves Brasilia every Monday, Thursday and Saturday at 11:05 a.m. and lands in Miami at 3:45 p.m. the same day. On this route, American will fly 182-seat Boeing 757 aircraft that accommodate 16 Business Class and 166 Economy Cabin passengers.

The new service complements American's other service and partnerships in Latin America, including codeshare and frequent flyer agreements with LAN and Mexicana. With the new service, American will serve 42 destinations in 17 countries within the region.
