Another Air France Strike for Next Week

Several unions representing Air France staff have called for another strike next week, from April 10 - 11. Today, a strike by rail workers on national carrier SNCF kicks off.

According to the latest update from Air France, strikes are now on tap for today, April 3, Saturday, April 7, and Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, April 10 – 11. The strikes will affect flights operated by both Air France and Joon, but not other airlines, such as Hop!, KLM and Delta.

Air France reports that it plans to operate 75 percent of its flight schedule today. That includes 70 percent of its long-haul flights; 67 percent of its medium-haul flights to and from Paris – Charles de Gaulle; and 85 percent of its short-haul flights to and from Paris-Orly and the French provinces. Last-minute delays and cancellations can still occur, so Air France will send an SMS or email to confirm the potential impact on customers’ journeys the day before their departure. It’s still to early to evaluate the possible impacts of the strikes on April 7, 10 and 11, Air France said.

Air France is offering rebooking at no extra cost for customers scheduled to fly April 3 and April 7. Customers set to fly April 3 can rebook for April 4 – 8. They can also postpone their trip after April 8, change their country of destination or origin or cancel their trip, in which case they will receive a nonrefundable voucher that will be valid for one year and can be used on Air France, KLM or Hop! flights. Customers set to fly April 7 can rebook for either April 4 – 6 or April 8 – 9. They can also postpone until after April 9, change their country of origin or destination, or cancel their trip, and receive a voucher with the same conditions as above.

Delta is also offering change waivers for flights operated by Air France, Hop! and Joon. Customers scheduled to fly April 3 can rebook for April 4 – 8, with the new ticket to be reissued on or before April 8. Customers scheduled to fly April 7 can rebook for either April 4 – 6 or April 8 – 9, with the new ticket to be reissued on or before April 9. Customers scheduled to fly April 10 – 11 can rebook for April 5 – 15, with the new ticket to be reissued on or before April 15.

Meanwhile, a strike by rail workers on national carrier SNCF is kicking off today, marking the start of three months of planned walkouts. As of mid-morning local time, approximately 33.9 percent of SNCF staff were participating. Customers can download a list of trains running today here. Going forward, SNCF said it will post the list of trains running for the following day at 5 p.m. daily.
