Avianca Launches RouteMe to Transform Airport Mobility

Avianca has begun implementing the pilot phase of RouteMe, an innovative airport navigation tool. This technological solution, accessible via NFC (Near Field Communication) or QR codes, helps travelers find their way to key areas such as check-in counters, baggage drop-off points, boarding gates, and more. The pilot program will launch on February 28 at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, with plans to expand to additional airports across North and Latin America throughout the year.

With this initiative, Avianca aims to offer solutions that address real customer needs, providing autonomy and simplicity—especially for travelers with disabilities who prefer to navigate the airport independently. RouteMe uses digital maps to guide passengers step-by-step, quickly and easily, without requiring app downloads, registration or additional costs. The tool offers visual and audio instructions in more than 22 languages, automatically selected based on the user’s phone language. It also includes accessible routes for passengers with reduced mobility, along with the option to preview and share itineraries through the Avianca app or confirmation email, making travel planning even easier.

How RouteMe Works

  1. Scan: The passenger scans a QR code located at a designated starting point.
  2. Select Destination: The desired location within the airport is selected.
  3. Personalized Guidance: RouteMe generates a customized route and provides clear, real-time directions.
  4. Navigation: The user enters the Avianca app, selects their origin and destination points, and starts navigation.
