Continental Airlines announced Tuesday it will begin service between Houston and Lagos, Nigeria.
Continental flights between Houston and Lagos are scheduled to begin in 2011, and would be the first daily scheduled service between Texas and anywhere in Africa. The announcement comes on the heels of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority approving Continental's application. The proposal timeline remains subject to final government approval.
"Service between Houston and Lagos, complemented by our planned service between Washington and Lagos, will enable greater customer convenience and increased commerce," said Jeff Smisek, president and CEO of United Continental Holdings.
Lagos will become the 31st trans-Atlantic destination in Continental's flight network.
