JetBlue continues to expand at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), with the launch of eight nonstop destinations and another six on the way, reinforcing its position as Fort Lauderdale's leading airline, with the most flights and nonstop destinations.
The airline added nonstop daily service from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore, Charlotte, Cleveland, Nashville, Detroit, Houston, Chicago and Ponce, Puerto Rico. New service to Indianapolis, San Diego, Columbus, Ohio, Cali, Colombia, Barranquilla, Colombia and Caracas, Venezuela are set to begin in the coming months.
With the new flights, JetBlue will now operate more than 125 daily departures to more than 55 nonstop destinations from FLL, the largest schedule in the airline’s history at the airport. The airline expects to reach approximately 150 daily flights from FLL this winter.
"Fort Lauderdale has always been part of JetBlue’s DNA and a cornerstone of our network. We are very excited about this next phase of growth and look forward to delivering great value to the people of South Florida," said Joanna Geraghty, chief executive officer, JetBlue. "We're building on our already strong foundation by adding more destinations, creating more connections and giving customers even more reasons to choose JetBlue. As Fort Lauderdale's leading airline, we see an opportunity to continue growing together with this community."
"JetBlue's decision to add several new domestic and international destinations to its FLL route map is great news," said Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen. "We're elated about JetBlue's continued investment in FLL and the potential economic impact of the airline increasing operations even further by the winter season."
"We're very pleased with JetBlue's ongoing expansion at FLL and its renewed commitment to our airport to increase flight options for travelers in this market," FLL CEO/Director of Aviation Mark E. Gale said. "We welcome the eight new routes launching this week and the others on the immediate horizon as we continue to grow our partnership even further."
Building on Strong Momentum at FLL
With JetBlue’s daily departures from FLL up more than 75 percent compared to the same time last year, the airline has expanded its Fort Lauderdale network, launching service to 24 additional nonstop destinations since December, with six more set to begin later this year. The growth further strengthens Fort Lauderdale’s role as a key gateway in JetBlue’s network, providing South Florida customers with more travel options while creating additional connections throughout the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean for both local and connecting travelers.
Among the new destinations still to launch, JetBlue recently announced new daily Mint service between Fort Lauderdale and San Diego beginning November 19, a market not currently served by the airline from FLL. Additional Mint flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco will also launch this winter.
Investing in Communities
The JetBlue Foundation is also investing in the communities that support the airline's success. This year, the Foundation awarded $130,000 in grants to organizations across South Florida, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, the Adrienne Arsht Center Trust and the Brevard Schools Foundation.
The grants support STEM education and youth development programs.
"As JetBlue continues to grow in Fort Lauderdale, we're equally focused on investing in the communities that make South Florida such an important part of our network," said Ursula Hurley, chief financial officer, JetBlue and president of the JetBlue Foundation. "Through the JetBlue Foundation, we're proud to support organizations that expand opportunities for young people and inspire the next generation of aviation professionals. Our growth in South Florida is about creating a lasting impact in the communities where our crewmembers and customers live and work."
