Report: American Airlines Drops Halifax – JFK Service

The Chronicle Herald reports that American Airlines has discontinued service between New York’s JFK International Airport and Halifax, Nova Scotia, effective April 3. United Airlines is now the only company with direct service between the two airports.

“They let us know that as a result of their restructuring and Chapter 11 protection in the U.S., of course, that they would be stopping service,” Jerry Staples, vice president of marketing and business development at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, told the Chronicle Herald.

Previously, American had announced a cost-cutting plan aimed at pulling their company out of bankruptcy that also included shedding 13,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, Delta Airlines plans to resume Halifax service to New York’s LaGuardia Airport on May 26.
