Singapore Airlines Launches Singapore–Melbourne Flights

The inaugural Singapore Airlines A380 service bound for Melbourne, the capital city of the Australian state of Victoria, took off from Singapore Changi Airport last evening and touched down at Melbourne Airport early this morning.

With 453 customers on board the 471-seat double-decker aircraft, SQ227 departed Singapore at 9:00 p.m. and arrived in Melbourne at around 5:45 a.m. this morning, 25 minutes ahead of schedule. The A380 will embark on its return journey with over 450 customers on board, departing Melbourne at 3:50 p.m. and touching down in Singapore at 9:40 p.m.

Melbourne is the second Australian city and sixth city in Singapore Airlines’ network to receive the A380. Singapore Airlines currently operates 21 weekly flights between Singapore and Melbourne, including the daily A380 service.

The A380 features the exclusive Singapore Airlines Suites. Each Suite comes with sliding doors, adjustable roller-blinds and a leather seat. At bedtime, a full-sized bed with plush pillows and duvet is deployed for the customer by the cabin crew.

At 34 inches, the Singapore Airlines Business Class seat is among the widest in its class. Fully adjustable by an intuitive control panel, the seat can be adjusted to suit any seating or lounging positions. The seatback folds down to form a full-flat bed.

Economy Class seats, meanwhile, provide customers with more legroom and personal space, with features like non-intrusive reading lights and height-adjustable leather headrest.

Customers across all three classes can enjoy in-flight meals designed by chefs on Singapore Airlines’ International Culinary Panel, including Matt Moran from Australia and Sam Leong from Singapore. Passengers can tune into KrisWorld, Singapore Airlines’ in-flight entertainment system. With more than 1000 entertainment options, customers can choose from 120 movies and more than 170  TV programs.
