A pilots’ strike is disrupting flights on Spanish low-cost airline Vueling today and tomorrow. According to the latest statement from the airline, 87 percent of its customers will not be affected on the strike days, May 3 and May 4.
Vueling said that it has already changed reservations for affected customers to the first available flights and informed them of changes via text message and email. Customers with questions can call a dedicated hotline at +34 931 220 055.
The airline has also issued a list of flights cancelled on May 3 here, and a list of flights cancelled on May 4 here. Canceled flights include routes from main hubs such as Barcelona, as well as flights from London Gatwick and Luton Airport. Travelers can also access the options to manage their booking here.
According to EuroWeekly, the strike stems from a dispute between the Spanish airline pilots union (SEPLA) and Vueling. The two have failed to reach an agreement over claims of breached employment contract. The union has also been pushing for the airline to guarantee greater growth in Spain than in its foreign bases, but the airline has refused. The union also claims that Vueling pilots are paid 30 percent less on average than the airline’s main competitors, such as Ryanair and EasyJet.
