United Applying for Dulles-Beijing Route

United Airlines says it is filing its application Monday with the U.S. Department of Transportation for a direct route between Washington, D.C. and Beijing. United is one of four carriers competing for the capital-to-capital route, which it sways will be the only new international route awarded this year by the federal government.
