Girlfriend Getaways In AnguillaMarch 16, 2009 By: Joe Pike Travel Agent
Travel Agent has visited Anguilla three times in one month to tell you about opportunities here for affluent couples and families, but we failed to mention another demographic that should not be ignored—clients looking for a good old-fashioned “girlfriend getaway.”
A view of the Caribbean from the Malliouhana Hotel & Spa
Here’s a small sampling of some of Anguilla’s nightlife, dining, spas and general activities that make this a great spot to party with the ladies and leave the men at home.
Female clients looking for a good dining experience with their girlfriends should check out Tasty’s (264-497-2737). For breakfast, fried fish and johnny cakes served with bush tea are a must. For lunch, the seafood salad is a favorite. This place also makes wonderful Caribbean soups—pumpkin, red bean, lobster, etc.
Anguilla’s Dune Preserve (264-772-9259) is a treehouse-like beach bar built from boats with decks on the sand for dining. It is owned by island reggae legend Bankie Banx. Tell clients to head to the top floor where they can lounge on the couch, have a beverage and admire great views of Rendezvous Bay.
While the Dune Preserve is a great place to unwind and take a load off, The Pumphouse (264-497-5154) is the complete opposite. Here, live bands play on Thursday night and the place is packed with locals and tourists.
CuisinArt Resort & Spa just reopened after a major renovation that tripled the size of its spa. The three-story, 7,000-square-foot Mediterranean-inspired Venus Spa offers a full variety of services, including its Wellness Program. Malliouhana Hotel & Spa offers private oceanview treatment day suites and specialty rooms.
Anguilla is not much of a shopping island, but there are a few art galleries, a major jewelry store and a few boutiques. We would recommend taking the 20-minute ferry over to St. Maarten for an afternoon of shopping.
Sailing to many of Anguilla’s offshore cays or secluded beaches is a great way to experience some of the island’s most pristine spots. Picnics on board or ashore, sunset cruises, secluded snorkeling trips and excursions to sand cay restaurants are just a few of the options. Agents can contact Sail Chocolate at 264-497-3394. Also, Seaside Stables at Cove Bay provides horseback riding along the beach or in the interior, for all levels of rider. Agents should e-mail [email protected].
