Collette Vacations Absorbs Rome Hotel Tax

January 5, 2011 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Now that Rome's new hotel tax is official, some tour operators are offering to absorb travelers' extra fees. Last month, Insight Vacations announced that its guests would not have to pay the tax, and today, Collette Vacations has done the same.

Guests staying at four and five-star hotels will pay an extra €3 ($4) per night, and there will be a €2 ($2.50) per night tax on all other accommodations. While some tour operators are offering to credit passengers who are obligated to pay the tax upon check-in, Collette’s tour managers will pay the new tax upon check-out of the hotel.

Dan Sullivan, Jr., president and CEO of Collette, said, “We want to assure all travel agents who have booked passengers on one of our many Italy programs that includes Rome or who have clients thinking about Rome in their future travel plans, that our pricing is guaranteed. Your clients will not be billed for the new tax and there will be no need for reimbursement. Our tour managers have excellent relationships with our Rome hotels and they have arranged to pay the new tax directly upon check out.”
