Where to Find Snow This Season

Despite the recent snowfall at Lake Tahoe, much of the continental U.S. continues to suffer from unseasonably warm and dry weather. However, Alaska, Europe and parts of Asia are currently experiencing cold temperatures, the Associated Press reports via the Wall Street Journal.

According to the AP, this past January was the ninth snowiest for Europe and Asia since 1966. The record snow is due to a weather pattern in which the jet stream dips just below Europe and Asia, allowing arctic winds to sweep into the area. Usually, this dip occurs over North America, and its absence is one of the major driving factors behind this season’s dry spell.
