The consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies increased 1.32 percent year-over-year in the first eleven months of 2013 compared to the same period last year, ARC reports. The totals: $80.9 billion vs. $79.8 billion in 2012. Sales for November 2013 were $6.2 million, a 1.1 percent increase over November 2012.
As of November 30, ARC reports, ticket transactions for 2013 remained virtually flat at -0.88 percent with 133.5 million transactions versus 134.7 million transactions over the same period in 2012.
Year-to-date passenger segments decreased 2.1 percent to 335.2 million compared to 342.4 million in the first eleven months of 2012 and 342.3 million in 2011.
ARC notes that results are based on monthly sales data ending November 30, 2013 from 13,558 U.S. retail, corporate, and online travel agencies.
Previously, ARC had found that air sales increased 1.05 percent year-over-year in the first three quarters of 2013 compared to the same period last year.
In the first eight months of 2013, agency air sales had been looking unchanged.
Results include U.S. retail and corporate travel agent locations, satellite ticket printing offices and online travel agencies. ARC notes results do not include sales of tickets purchased directly from airlines. Total sales are equal to the total amount paid for a ticket, which includes taxes and fees.
