Vegas Named A Top 10 Labor Day Destination, Again

We already shared's top 10 Labor Day picks and now it's Orbitz's turn. The OTA released its annual "Labor Day Weekend" edition of its Insider Index, detailing the top 10 U.S. and international destinations where Americans will spend the holiday. Ranking was calculated based on air, hotel and hotel plus air oackage bookings made on between September 3 to 6, made as of August 19.

Jeanenne Tornatore, Senior Travel Editor for Orbitz Worldwide, said, "Although international hoteliers are still offering consumers significant reductions in nightly rates versus historic levels, stateside locales will benefit the most over the Labor Day weekend as travelers open their wallets to take advantage of deeply discounted hotel rates."

Topping the list is Las Vegas, followed by New York, Chicago, Denver and Seattle. Then, San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando and Los Angeles wrap up Orbitz's top 10. Internationally, Cancun, London and Paris take the top three. Then, San Juan, Mexico; Rome; San Jose Cabo, Mexico; Barcelona; Toronto; Vancouver and Montego Bay, Jamaica round off the top 10.

Las Vegas

On Friday night 9/3 , the Palms Casino Resort will feature musicians David Gray and Ray Lamontage, and comedian Chelsea Handler will perform at Caesars Palace Saturday, September 4. Other musical acts will include Melissa Etheridge at the Palms on Saturday and The Doobie Brothers at the Las Vegas Hilton on Saturday and Sunday and Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Wednesday, September 1 through Sunday September 5.


The Windy City is bustling this September. Music fans can wander through Grant Park to see the 32nd Annual Chicago Jazz Festival September 2 to 5 and the North Coast Musical Festival September 3-5. Sports enthusiasts can visit Wrigleyville, where the Chicago Cubs will host the New York Mets at Wrigley Field. Also through the weekend, check out the African Festival of Arts and the Taste of Polonia.


On the West Coast, take in Bumbershoot, Seattle's Music & Arts Festival, September 4-6 at Seattle Center. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the three-day events will have 2,500 artists, dance lessons, parades and more over 74 acres. This year's acts include Katy Perry, Sheryl Crow and De La Soul. Visitors to the coastal town will also be able to get a glimpse of the One Reel film festival, showcasing more than 100 U.S. and international films and three feature-length films.
