American Cruise Line Unveils New Modern Riverboat Design

American Cruise Lines has unveiled imagery showcasing the evolution of interior spaces on its new Modern Riverboat class of vessel. The American-flagged river line recently partnered with Studio DADO, a Miami, FL, boutique design firm, on a new look and design feel for the newest of those Modern Riverboats, the 175-passenger American Melody, which sets sail on the Mississippi in 2021.

While the new design marks the biggest change in American Cruise Lines interior design history, the river line stressed that Studio DADO's design remains true to the line's sophisticated style and brand and retains the interior spaciousness for which the Modern Riverboats are known. A fifth, still-unnamed Modern Riverboat will debut in 2022, and will also reflect Studio DADO's design style.

Check out our "sneak peek" at the new design interiors in our slide show o renderings above. American Cruise Lines also has created a new virtual tour.

Studio DADO has designed interiors for some of the biggest names in the cruise industry, including Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean International. This is the company’s first foray into the domestic river cruise market.

Charles B. Robertson, president and CEO, American Cruise Lines, said in a press announcement that Studio DADO's "design vision closely aligned with our mission to provide sophisticated experiences on modern ships." He added that American Melody and sister ships to follow are the biggest step forward in American Cruise Lines design history.

American Melody will be the first riverboat to showcase the new design, but it's the fourth Modern Riverboat vessel and the 13th new ship in American Cruise Line's domestic fleet. First in the Modern Riverboat series was American Song in 2018, followed by American Harmony in 2019 and American Jazz in 2020, which was delivered but hasn't yet sailed with passengers, given the pandemic; it will debut on the Mississippi in 2021.

American Song and American Harmony will operate along the Columbia and Snake Rivers of the U.S. Pacific Northwest in 2021.

The line said it looks forward to working with Studio DADO as it continues introducing new small ships for the domestic river cruise market. American Cruise Lines currently operates 14 ships that accommodate 100 to 190 passengers; they're a combination of Modern Riverboats, paddlewheelers and coastal vessels.
