Discovery Princess Sets Sail on Inaugural Voyage

Princess Cruises has revealed a first glimpse of Discovery Princess—its newest MedallionClass ship—sailing on its inaugural voyage to the Mexican Riviera.

The 3,660-guest Discovery Princess expands the line’s fleet to 15 vessels. A traditional naming ceremony will be held at the Port of Los Angeles on April 29, 2022. Built at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, it is the sixth and final Royal-Class newbuild, and is sister ship to Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess, Majestic Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess.

Discovery Princess is sailing on a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast voyages until April 24. Later, the ship will head up the Pacific coast to kick-start a season of seven-day Alaska cruises from Seattle.

Discovery Princess offers notable features and entertainment offerings on-board. Spotlight Bar will debut in April in the Princess Theater. It is a live show that transports guests to a bar atmosphere where they will meet and connect with local storytellers who will share tales of their lives through song.

The Sky Suites were first introduced on Sky Princess in 2019. Besides signature amenities, guests will have a dedicated Suite Experience Manager at hand. The suites can accommodate up to five guests and feature a 1,000-square-foot balcony with 270-degree views.

Discovery Princess has 25 bars and restaurants, including Bistro Sur La Mer by Michelin-starred chef Emmanuel Renaut, Sabatini’s Italian Trattoria with its Pasta RoomCrown Grill Steakhouse and Bar, Crooners, Chef’s Table LumiereGigi’s Pizzeria, The Salty Dog Gastropub, Gelato and three Main Dining Rooms, among others. At Take Five, which made its debut on Sky Princess, guests can enjoy live jazz at night while sipping on cocktails crafted by Rob Floyd.

Besides multiple hot tubs, Discovery Princess features two deep-tank pools, adjacent to the top-deck bar. At the ship’s aft end, the infinity-style Wakeview Pool and bar offer views of the horizon, while the Retreat Pool offers a quiet oasis. Other signature venues and amenities include the PiazzaLotus Spa, The Sanctuary, Movies Under the Stars, Princess Live! Café, Good Spirits at Sea Bar, Vegas-Style Casino, The Shops of Princess, Camp Discovery Youth & Teen Center, and Discovery at SEA programs.
