Holland America Line Speeds Up Embarkation Process with Technology

Holland America Line is implementing mBark facial recognition and the VeriFLY vaccine verification program in all its homeports across the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Both pre-cruise enhancements are aimed at making the embarkation process easier for guests. Making use of the mBark facial recognition, passengers can upload their photo and the required pre-cruise information to the line’s website. Next, guests will only need to scan their face, which takes less than 10 seconds. London-based SKO Systems has designed and implemented mBark for the cruise line.

With the VeriFLY app, passengers can upload the necessary information, including proof of vaccination and test results, and go through the screening process prior to arrival at the terminal. Once registration is complete, passengers can show the VeriFLY QR code or “pass” (digital or printed) to the check-in agent. The app is available for download at Google Play and the Apple App Store.

VeriFLY launched in Rotterdam in March and will now roll out to other ships in the fleet by the end of this month and begin with the remaining ships as they return to cruising. The mBark system will also launch with ships as they return to service and will begin in other embarkation ports as the ships move to new cruising regions.
