Mariner of the Seas to Sail Weekend Cruises After $90 Million Reno

Royal Caribbean International reports that the Mariner of the Seas will offer weekend cruises after the ship wraps a $90 million renovation project this June. Following the makeover, the cruise ship will sail three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from PortMiami to Nassau and CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island.

The renovation project will add the Sky Pad virtual reality bungee trampoline experience, in which guests strap on a virtual reality headset to transport themselves to another time and planet to bounce over moon craters or compete in intergalactic games. The experience can also be enjoyed without the headsets for ocean views.

The project will also add a number of recent updates for the brand, including The Perfect Storm, a duo of racing waterslides called Cyclone and Typhoon, and a glow-in-the-dark laser tag experience in Studio B, where friends and family can team up to play "Battle for Planet Z." Mariner will also have Puzzle Break: The Observatorium, a new escape room experience, and a new, 40-foot-long FlowRider surf simulator.

In terms of nightlife, the project will add a new Polynesian-themed watering hole called The Bamboo Room, which will be exclusive to Mariner of the Seas. For sports fans, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade will broadcast live sporting events and serve a menu of beer, wings, sliders and more.

The ship will also add new culinary offerings like Jamie’s Italian from Chef Jamie Oliver, a new Starbucks, and Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, offering made-to-order hot and cold dishes á la carte.

The 15-deck Mariner of the Seas will continue to offer an array of signature Royal Caribbean experiences, including a Studio B ice-skating rink, a 40-foot rock-climbing wall, a nine-hole miniature golf course, three pools, a full-sized basketball court and "Dive-In" outdoor movie nights poolside.
