Princess Cruises Provides Update on Sailings to Skagway, AK

Princess Cruises this week announced it will retain two-thirds of its port calls to Skagway, AK through the remainder of the 2022 Alaska season. Of the 31 remaining calls to Skagway, 21 itineraries will remain intact and make stops in the popular Alaska port.

That said, because the forward dock that has been closed for the season is the primary location where Princess Royal Class ships dock, and because there are no other viable alternatives, Princess is making adjustments to several itineraries, including:

  • The August 23 and September 6 sail dates for Majestic Princess and August 25 and September 1 sailings for Discovery Princess will now call at Icy Strait Point
  • The August 16 and August 30 sail dates for Royal Princess will visit Haines
  • The September 8, and September 22 sail dates for Discovery Princess and September 13 sail date for Royal Princess will call at Sitka

The forward (Railroad) dock at Skagway has been closed due to potential rock slides. The cruise line first made an adjustment to sailings to the destination in late July.

Earlier, Princess said it would continue to work with officials from Skagway and the White Pass Rail Road to determine when scheduled calls can return. In a statement, the line said, “The health and safety of our guests and crew are always our top priority and we appreciate and support [White Pass’s] decision [to close the dock]."

According to Anchorage Daily News, there have been three landslides that resulted in the cruise ship dock being closed for the remainder of summer. The report adds that no one has been injured as a result of any of the rock slides.
