Silversea’s Silver Spirit Latest Luxury Ship to Get Lengthened

Silversea and Fincantieri have announced plans to lengthen the Silver Spirit, making it the latest ship to undergo this style of upgrade.

The transformation project, which will start in early March at Fincantieris Palermo shipyard, will add a 49-foot midsection to the luxury cruise ship that will house six Silver Suites, 26 Veranda Suites and two Panorama Suites. The renovations will also involve a number of technical upgrades, Silversea said.

The redesign will draw inspiration from the lines recently launched flagship, Silver Muse. The newly refreshed Silver Spirit will incorporate a number of new dining concepts, and décor enhancements in suites, public spaces and outdoor areas will aim to provide an increased level of comfort and spaciousness.

This exclusive, invite-only event focused on the luxury travel market brings together world-class travel agency owners and managers with the most opulent, luxury suppliers to cultivate collaboration, share insights, and help carve a path into the future of luxury travel.

In a written statement, Silversea EVP of Fleet Operations Christian Sauleau said that the makeover is based on feedback the line received from guests onboard the Silver Muse.

While this is the first lengthening project for Silversea, other luxury cruise lines have used a similar process to add capacity and update their onboard product. Earlier this year the newly refurbished Queen Victoria made its debut after a $40 million enhancement project that included adding a new Britannia Club Restaurant and 43 new Britannia Club staterooms, as well as redesigned Grand and Penthouse Suites, plus a new sundeck and enhanced Winter Garden. In all the refurbishment raised the ships maximum double occupancy from 2,021 to 2,081.

In order to accomplish the refurbishment, Cunard had to slice the back off of the ship and slide the section containing the new cabins and sundeck into place. You can watch a video of the process here.

The Silver Spirit lengthening is just the latest fleet enhancement on tap for Silversea. Earlier this month the cruise line announced plans to build a new ship, the Silver Moon, which will be a sibling vessel to the Silver Muse. The Silver Wind and Silver Whisper are also slated for complete refurbishments as part of the latest phase of Silverseas $170 million fleetwide renovation program, which it launched in late 2016.
