New cruise company Virgin Voyages laid out some of its plans for its inaugural ship’s food scene, with the ultimate goal of offering dishes that are equal to what guests could eat in world famous cities, according to the line. The company also announced a trip aboard its adults-only Scarlet Lady will include the price of restaurant food in the fare, and that there will be no upcharges for specialty restaurants.
Scarlet Lady, setting sail for the first time in 2020, will offer over 20 food choices. Wake, located at the aft of the ship with a view of its wake, will offer a raw bar, land and sea staples, a table-side cocktail cart and a sommelier-led Magnum program. Razzle Dazzle will serve vegetarian options, feature a juice bar and presenting a drag show during its Drag Brunch. The Test Kitchen will mix its role as a restaurant with that of a cooking school, offering mixology classes and coffee labs. Other options will include the Korean BBQ restaurant Geonbae, Mexican eatery Pink Agave, the pasta-focused Extra Virgin and more.
Virgin Voyages also said it aims to abandon the traditional cruise dining rules. In addition to eliminating the buffet, it will get rid of the main dining room, not enforce formal wear, not have assigned seating or dining times and extend restaurant hours well into the night.
The company wants to build one of the business’ cleanest fleets. It will ban buffets and single-use plastics for passengers in order to reduce waste. It will invest its savings into using clean technology to further reduce its environmental impact.
