Reserva Conchal Beach Resort, Golf & Spa, located on Costa Rica’s northwestern Pacific coast, has announced its Robert Trent Jones II-designed golf course was named the top layout in the country by Golfweek and Golf Digest magazines.
In its annual list of the best courses in the Caribbean and Mexico, Golfweek tabbed Reserva Conchal 30th, a two-spot jump from 2017, making it the No. 1 course in Costa Rica. According to Golfweek, each year “more than 850 course raters survey more than 3,600 golf courses, grading each nominated course based on Golfweek’s 10 strict standards of evaluation.”
Golf Digest ranked the top courses in 206 countries, with Reserva Conchal at the top in Costa Rica. The publication has been rating golf courses around the world since 1966, and has nearly 1,000 raters and approximately 2 million subscribers.
“The Guanacaste region of Costa Rica is fast becoming a golf destination, and we are thrilled two major golf media giants chose our course as the best in the country,” says Carlos Rojas Soto, director of golf of Reserva Conchal.
The par-71 track has ocean vistas with holes winding through lakes, rugged ravines and rolling hills between the Pacific Ocean and the neighboring “dry” tropical forrest.
Reserva Conchal was the first course in Costa Rica bestowed certification by Audubon International. It has a practice facility and learning center with four green complexes, bunkers, chipping and approach areas, and an expansive practice tee. Single- and multi-day golf clinics are offered, including the PGA TOUR Academy with certified instructors from TPC Sawgrass.
The golf course also is the site for the PGA TOUR Latinoamerica Essential Costa Rica Classic. Reserva Conchal hosted the inaugural tournament last year, which was Costa Rica’s first PGA TOUR event in over 30 years. The 2018 tournament – sponsored by the Costa Rica Tourism Institute – will take place May 7-13.
