Top Fall 2022 Paris Cultural Events

Fall of 2022 promises to be one of the best and brightest cultural seasons in Paris in years. The city is in full swing with concerts, ballets, operas, festivals, and museum exhibitions and we’ve compiled a list of the top events.

Frida Kahlo – Beyond Appearances

This sweeping exhibition explores the essence and the more private side of one of the great 20th century artists, Frida Kahlo. More than 200 objects from Kahlo’s former home Casa Azul, where she was born, are on display and includes clothing, fashion accessories, photos, films, letters and correspondences, cosmetics, and medical equipment related to her ailments and illnesses. Many of the pieces have been sealed since her death in 1954 by her husband artist Diego Rivera and are on display for the first time. There’s an adjunct exhibit where fashion designers and houses such as Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy, Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, pay tribute to Kahlo and her fashion and style inspiration.

Available: September 15, 2022, to March 5, 2023, at the Palais Galliera

Montmartre Grape Harvest Festival

Did you know that there’s an operating vineyard in Montmartre? On an off the beaten path street in the idyllic village of Montmartre stands a vineyard which produces approximately 700 to 900 bottles annually. Every fall there’s a big celebration to kick off the grape harvest, where the vineyard is open to the public for tours and auctions off the wine. The four-day event also includes live music, a children’s choir, food stalls, a brass band, a parade, a dance performance, a 5K run, and a closing night ball.

Available October 5 to 9, 2022, at the Clos Montmartre

"The Magic Flute"

The beloved fairytale opera "The Magic Flute" was first performed in Vienna in 1791, just two months before the great composer’s death. Director Robert Carsen approaches the sometimes dark tale with a more upbeat interpretation at the Opera Bastille and it features the prestigious Opera de Paris choir and orchestra. Performed in German with English and French subtitles.

Available September 17 to November 19, 2022, at the Paris Opera Bastille.

Sting in Concert

The legendary singer, song writer and composer Sting comes to Paris for a solo concert. Sting will perform a selection of songs from his hit album My Songs, which covers 14 of his personal solo favorites and some when he was with the band The Police.

The event is happening October 11 at Accor Arena.

Celebrated British choreographer Kenneth Macmillan brings "Mayerling," a story of madness, obsession, love and politics to the stage of the gorgeous Opera Garnier with the exquisite Paris opera ballet dancers. With a brilliant score by Franz Liszt, the story revolves around Crown Prince Rudolf and his mistress, Marie Vetsera.

Running through October and November 2022 at Opera Garnier.

Two exquisite artists, Claude Monet and Joan Mitchell, create a visual dialogue between two generations, from the late 19th century and early 20th century, and the mid to late 20th century. Monet lived in Giverny in Normandy during the last 40 years of his life and American, Joan Mitchell, lived nearby in the small village of Vétheuil, where they both absorbed the rich country landscapes, gardens, and the Seine River. Over 60 iconic works are on display.

Available October 5, 2022 to February 27, 2023, at Fondation Louis Vuitton.
