Opening Soon: Copenhagen's New citizenM Hotel

A new citizenM hotel is set to open soon in Copenhagen, at the start of December. The arrival of the hotel is preceded by a ‘citizens of Copenhagen’ art installation, shot by local photographer Marie Hald. It consists of 33 portraits of Copenhageners, displayed in 150 windows on the hotel facade, creating a public gallery during the final phase of the hotel building. The art installation will remain on display until the hotel’s official opening.

citizenM, a lifestyle hotel company, is the creator of the ‘affordable luxury’ approach to hotel stays. This starts with selecting well-connected locations in popular cities, so business and leisure guests are in hubs. Once again, citizenM’s long-term partner Vitra is the supplier of all the 21st century furniture by the likes of Verner Panton and Jasper Morrison.

The site, at H.C. Andersens Boulevard 12, is in proximity to popular business, leisure and cultural destinations. citizenM Copenhagen Radhuspladsen is steps from the City Hall Square (Radhuspladsen), a four minutes’ walk from Tivoli Gardens and a ten minutes’ walk from The National Museum of DenmarkCentral Station is eight minutes away by foot. A brand-new metro line with a Radhuspladsen station (currently under construction) will create a link to the Copenhagen Airport. The new metro line is scheduled to open from July 2019.

The experience starts at the moment of arrival, when the guests meet citizenM’s ambassadors. They will assist with the one-minute check-in at the kiosk, cocktails, help with luggage or recommend local places for dining, entertainment and shopping.

The citizenM living room is the main attraction of the hotel. It is filled with Vitra couches, tables, chairs and bookcases and decorated with a mix of commissioned and collected art and objects. The Copenhagen hotel is the first for the brand with the living room on the top floor. A sky bar (open to the public) with an outdoor terrace, photo-op city views and cocktails are designed to create an ‘escape the city’ feel, without having to leave the city at all. In the heart of the living room, canteenM – open 24/7 to hotel guests – stocks food from mostly local suppliers. Shoppers who wish to take a little bit of citizenM home can head to collectionM. As a specially curated selection of various types of items, collectionM includes chargers and pens to toys and books.

238 bedrooms will be ready from December 2018, with rates starting at 95 euros. All signature features of a citizenM room are there: the XL king-size beds, luxury linens and towels, Grohe power showers with full-size custom-made AM and PM shower gels, and unlimited Wi-Fi for streaming. The in-room iPad (known as the MoodPad) is used to change the temperature, flood the room with colored lights, close the blinds, experience the free movie library, or set the mood for romance or relaxation.

In every city, citizenM stands out among other hotels not just by creating an exceptional guest experience, but also by inviting local artists to add a real local vibe to the exterior and interior. For citizenM Copenhagen Radhuspladsen, artist Troels Aagaard painted an entrance mural on both walls, while Ditte Ejlerskov and HuskMitNavn contributed in-room art, wall and ceiling murals in the sky bar.

Four societyM spaces (the largest room sits up to 12) will be available for half-day and full-day bookings, with food-and-drink service by request. societyM features daylight, AV equipment, Vitra furniture, and blackboard or whiteboard walls to draw on for meetings, presentations, networking, interviews, craft sessions and other activities.

In the line-up of 13 existing hotels in 7 international cities, citizenM Copenhagen Radhuspladsen will be the 14th urban destination, and the first flagship in Scandinavia. Bookings are now open for visits from December 2018. The property is located within the triangle of Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens, the Central Station and the city’s largest conference centers.
