The Cool Pool of the Week: Casa Palopo's Main Pool in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

When they are not exploring the Mayan towns that line the shore of the lake, Millennials staying at Casa Palopo on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, can enjoy the main hotel’s solar heated pool.

The pool offers lounge beds and sweeping views of the lake. We recommend pairing this view with the hotel’s signature drink, the "Rosa Palopo," made with aged Zacapa 23 rum, fresh watermelon puree, hibiscus water and fresh lime juice.

Located in the heart of the Guatemalan Highlands, Casa Palopo offers a quiet retreat for the savvy traveler who values a rich dose of culture with their vacation experience.

The main property has seven private guest rooms, each with brightly colored stucco walls, an original collection of Latin American artworks, handcrafted antique furniture and private terraces with views of the lake and the three volcanoes across the shore.

Guests can indulge in traditional Guatemalan cuisine with an upscale twist at 6.8 Palopo restaurant, which just welcomed a Michelin star experienced chef, Yonatan Gomez, to lead culinary operations at the hotel. Menu options include the popular Caprese Guatemalan Salad, which features cherry tomatoes that have been slow cooked in Zacapa 23 honey, fresh burrata, toasted pumpkin seed pesto.

Coming Soon

This spring, Casa Palopo will open five new guest rooms ranging from Deluxe Queen and King Rooms to Jr. Suites and Master Suites, each including Guatemalan textiles and handcrafted wooden furniture. This will take Casa Palopo’s total room count to 15, including the three-bedroom Villa Palopo, which is set a bit higher on the mountain. Back in 2015, Travel Agent featured Casa Palopo's villa pool at Villa Palopo in our Cool Pool of the Week column
