Dornoch Station, Slieve Donard Open Doors Under Marine & Lawn Brand

Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of two brand additions over the span of the next month: Dornoch Station is set to open on August 28 and Slieve Donard is set to open on September 1. Both golf-centric properties are relaunching under the Marine & Lawn banner with refurbished guestrooms, F&B concepts and public spaces.

Dating to 1902, The Dornoch Hotel has been rebranded as Dornoch Station. The hotel sits on four acres within Dornoch, just a short walk from the first fairway of Royal Dornoch Golf Club. The property now offers 89 guestrooms and refreshed public spaces, besides a new putting green and fire pits for guests to enjoy. The lobby bar houses a snooker table, golf and seaside themes can be found across the hotel, and rooms offer velvet lounge chairs positioned by the windows encouraging guests to take in the scenic Dornoch Firth views.

Dornoch Station also opened two new F&B offerings: The Golden Gorse and Bar Ross. Affording views over the Royal Dornoch Links and sea beyond, The Golden Gorse will offer a seasonal, all day à la carte menu, afternoon tea and Sunday Roast menu. Bar Ross will offer classic cocktails and a range of whiskies, wines and beers alongside Scottish bar snacks.

Located in Dornoch, a small seaside destination in the county of Sutherland, Dornoch Station is approximately one hour north of Inverness, and is located between the Dornoch Firth and the Moray Firth. The town is famed for the impressive Dornoch Cathedral, founded in 1224. Guests can go walking or swimming along the beaches and rugged coastline of the East Coast, also home to distilleries and castles.

Built by the Belfast and County Down Railway in 1898, Slieve Donard welcomes a new chapter this year (Slieve Donard)

Positioned adjacent to the Royal County Down Golf Club, the 180-key Slieve Donard is the first Marine & Lawn property in Northern Ireland. Built by the Belfast and County Down Railway in 1898, the hotel welcomes a new chapter with updated guestrooms, renovated meeting and event, and restaurant spaces. Many of the 180 refurbished rooms offer panoramic views over the mountains of Mourne and County Down coastline.

Slieve Donard will be home to four restaurants. J.J. Farrall’s is named after Slieve Donard’s architect, where guests will enjoy 19th-century architecture and open fire, while tucking into dinner, afternoon tea or a traditional Sunday lunch. Lighthouse Lounge is a casual eatery that serves seasonal Mediterranean menus with views overlooking the property. Wolf Bar will offer plates of local Carlingford oysters, platters of local cured meats and cheeses, and a number of snacks. The Percy French is a local favorite, which has been refreshed under the Marine & Lawn brand. From pub classics, regional fare, bar snacks, and a traditional Sunday roast, all dishes will focus on in-season and local produce alongside a wide-ranging wine list, draught beers and classically inspired cocktails.

The Spa at Slieve Donard will welcome guests and locals alike. Spanning over two floors, it will offer ESPA treatments. Other wellness and fitness facilities include a 65-foot indoor pool, a vitality pool, steam room, rock sauna and drench showers; a fully equipped gym offering a range of classes in the studios such as yoga, HIIT and more; relaxation rooms provide comfortable seating, herbal teas and fresh fruit; and a hair salon offering basic and specialty services.

The hotel is located at the foot of Slieve Donard, the highest of the Mourne Mountains. Having recently been awarded the UNESCO Geopark status, the destination is ideal for hikers and nature-lovers. At the nearby Tollymore Forest Park, guests can enjoy outdoor activities such as walking, horseback riding and orienteering.

Dornoch Station and Slieve Donard will join existing Marine & Lawn properties Rusacks St Andrews, Marine North Berwick and Marine Troon in Scotland; and Adelphi Portrush in Northern Ireland, currently under development.
