Florence’s Hotel Calimala to Add 65 Rooms in October

Hotel Calimala, Florence’s 38-room boutique hotel set in the Centro Storico neighborhood, has announced the acquisition of a neighboring building, adding 65 keys to the hotel this October.

The hotel’s original east-facing structure is housed in a landmark 19th-century building showcasing Eclectic architectural style. The addition will herald the arrival of a westward building, spanning five floors with 65 new rooms, each designed by architect Alex Meitlis of Ottolenghi’s London restaurants. Located a stone’s throw from the original Hotel Calimala, the new building will also offer a restaurant, gym and wellness facilities.

Each room in the new wing of Hotel Calimala will maintain the iconic design elements employed in the original, eastern building by Meitlis.

The original Hotel Calimala sits on Via Calimala 2, occupying an entire block between Via dei Lamberti and Via Porta Rossa in the historical Palazzo degli Angeli. Offering 38 rooms, complete with views of the neighborhood, the hotel’s exteriors have been restored, featuring etched motifs on its facade, distressed stone walls and original brass accents.

Hotel Calimala’s Angel Roofbar & Dining occupies the fifth, sixth and seventh floors of the original hotel., and features a rooftop patio and garden. The hotel expansion will include the addition of Meze restaurant in the new wing, on the ground floor. It will serve a menu inspired by Mediterranean-Italian cuisine, from breakfast and aperitivo to dinner.

Nearby attractions include historic and noteworthy sites, shopping boutiques, restaurants, theaters and parks.
